Here is the poem JCHS student Talia Young performed at “Parenting Your Teen:”

When we started to plan Parenting Your Teen, we knew two basic things:

Parents were eager for insightful wisdom to help them parent their teens, specifically around setting healthy boundaries, communication and relationships; and BJE’s Jewish Teen Alliance knew experts who could help our parents.

Last Sunday we brought the two groups together at Parenting Your Teen. Thank you for attending and for contributing. We hope that you returned home with some learning that will resonate with you and your family.

This is just the beginning of our teen-focused parenting events. If you enjoyed yesterday’s event, please consider signing up for additional workshops.

First up: Rabbi Howard Ruben and Rick Concoff, MA, two of yesterday’s presenters, are offering a four-part series of Parenting Classes. to be held in San Francisco at Jewish Community High School of the Bay.

BJE’s Shalhevet

Shalhevet is a learning experience that connects Bay Area high school juniors and seniors to the history, heritage and future of the Jewish people.

Shalhevet is unique among teen travel programs to Poland and Israel due to the comprehensive curriculum the students engage in before the trip and the follow up upon return. Jewish history in Eastern Europe, the founding of the state of Israel, the Holocaust and modern day revitalization of Polish Jewry are just a few of the topics. During the two week trip to Poland and Israel much of the curriculum is brought to life. With a Bay Area Holocaust survivor as a guide, students visit concentration camps, remnants of the Jewish Ghetto, and today’s growing Jewish community. They spend time with Polish and Israeli peers, learn how they relate to their countries’ past, and their hopes for the future. They’ll develop a deep connection to Israel and the Jewish people, and with the tools to become their generation’s Jewish leaders.

This year’s travel dates are March 21 – April 4, 2012. Pre-trip educational seminars take place on five Sundays: January 22, February 5, 12, 26, and March 11. A post-trip seminar will take place on Sunday, April 15.
